Plenty for the whole family to enjoy

With a private golf, tennis, fishing and clay pigeon shooting all available at the house, you may not wish to leave it. The house is perfectly located to take advantage of other local activities, however, and there will be something for everyone in your party to enjoy.

Stalking and shooting. A variety of shooting, both walked and driven, is available on nearby estates. Stalking red stags, hinds, and roe bucks is also available given enough notice and depending on the season. Guests at Old Milton can fish for Atlantic salmon and brown trout on the Spey for free, and there is a stocked trout pond on the grounds. Recommendations and contact details for neighbouring estates can be provided on request.

Water Sports. Only a couple of miles north of Old Milton, Loch Insh provides a variety of summer and winter outdoor activities for all ages and experience. Sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing and river trips in Canadian style canoes dominate the summer months, while skiing expeditions are available in the winter.

Walking. Whether it is walking along the Badenoch Way, the undulating footpaths of the Rothiemurchus estate, a climb up the Munro Sgoran, or attempting the twenty-seven mile long Lairig Ghru, there is walking for all abilities and ambition in the surrounding area. After twenty years exploring the corries and lochans of western Cairngorms, we will be only too happy to provide our favourite routes and picnic spots on request.

Cycling. Whether you enjoy cycling along the scenic highland roads, guided tours through the Laggan Forrest, or simply renting a mountain bike and exploring Glen Feshie, the clear air, scenery, and wildlife will make it worthwhile. If you do not bring your own bike, they can be easily rented from Loch Insh.

Golf. Once you have warmed up at Old Milton, you may wish to play some of the eighteen hole golf courses in the surrounding area. Kingussie Golf Club is ten minute drive from Old Milton. Boat of Garten Golf Club, one of the most popular amateur courses in the Highlands, is forty minutes drive, and the world famous Royal Dornoch ninety minutes away.

Riding. Newtonmore Riding Centre is fifteen minutes from Old Milton. The centre offers a range of excursions into the Cairngorms, hacking and trekking, pony club for children and carriage driving.

Gliding.  Take in breathtaking views from the peace and quiet of a glider. Five miles from Old Milton is the Cairgorm Gliding Club. Although a members’ club, it is open to visitors if booked in advance.

Activities in and around Aviemore.  Aviemore is a well-known and popular holiday destination with plenty of things to do for all ages. Snowsports are popular in the winter while walking, climbing, biking, are the main summer activities. Additionally, there are all weather excursions particularly popular with children, including archery, kayaking, fishing, gorge walking, climbing and abseiling at Craggan House, an outside adventure park at Landmark in Carr Bridge, a trip on the Strathspey Steam Railway, or a visit to the Cairngorm Reindeer Herd.

Highland Wildlife Park. Discover Scottish wildlife and endangered animals of the world's mountains and tundra. Drive around the main reserve in your own car and then investigate the walk-round area on foot. The Wildlife Park has a wide and diverse range of animals. From native species such as the Capercaillie and Scottish Wildcat to those from further afield such as the Amur Tiger and Polar Bear.
